Engine Diagnostics

State-of-the-art engine management equipment allows us to perform car diagnostics on any vehicle fitted with an ECU. At our garage in Frome, we can identify all vehicle sub-system issues quickly. Whenever we carry out any car diagnostics on your behalf, we will issue a detailed report so you know exactly what we’ve identified and rectified.

A warning light on your vehicle’s dashboard is never a welcome sight! Engines in modern vehicles are extremely complex and packed with technology.  Most vehicles contain an on-board computer called an Engine Control Unit (ECU) which monitors the running performance of the engine. A series of sensors all around the vehicle continually check the ‘health’ of the engine’s components – any potential faults are assigned an error code and this error will be highlighted by a warning light.
In modern engines, an engine warning light could be the result of hundreds of potential error codes. In order to ascertain exactly what is causing the issue, it will be necessary to run an engine diagnostic check so that the problem can be rectified before more serious (and costly) damage occurs.

What happens is that we will plug in our diagnostic equipment which then reads the error code generated by the ECU. We are then able to identify the diagnostic path to follow, highlighting the cause of the warning light and then take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.

Common warning lights are caused by:

  • Engine management, performance, defective sensors and control valves
  • Tyres
  • Emissions
  • Air conditioning and other comfort control system repairs
  • Lights – headlamps, indicators, hazard lights, brake lights, reverse lights and any other bulb failures
  • ABS braking systems
  • Diesel particulate filters
  • Airbag system issues

At DH Truck & Car Servicing, we have invested in a range of diagnostic equipment and software so that we are capable of analysing most vehicle makes and models. So, if your vehicle is displaying a warning light, it’s important that you don’t ignore it. Get in touch with us so we can check the cause and let you know what is needed to maintain the healthy performance of your vehicle.

servicing

Regular servicing of a vehicle helps to safeguard against engine underperformance, reliability issues and undue wear and tear to key engine components. In turn, this will help to keep your vehicle running well and efficiently.

Some main dealers encourage regular servicing intervals but their prices can be quite expensive. Vehicle servicing is indeed an essential process that helps to ensure your vehicle is suitably roadworthy and safe to drive for the future weeks, months and years. However, at DH, we believe that is shouldn’t have to be as expensive as some main dealer charges.

We believe in providing a “Good Old-Fashioned Service”. By this, we don’t follow the quick (but very expensive) series of checks that most main dealers follow. Instead, we check the entire vehicle from top to bottom and bumper to bumper in order to ensure that everything is in full working order.  If we find any defects or issues, we will report, quote and make arrangements for any vehicle repairs to be carried out. This means that we (and you) can be confident that your vehicle should continue to run as well as possible.

We only use top quality brands of fluids and high-quality replacement parts as required. If we uncover anything out of the ordinary that might involve extra work and incur additional expense, we will contact you before proceeding.

We provide both full and interim car servicing packages that are structured around the number of miles you cover each year to suit your needs. For more information, please get in touch.

Mechanical Repair

Unfortunately, all mechanical parts wear over time and sometimes they fail. When this happens, it can be both frustrating and costly.  At DH, we understand that most customers dread visiting a garage for mechanical repair. That’s why we try to make your repair as pain free as possible.

We will only fit high-quality replacement parts, but you don’t have to pay main dealer prices. We use a network of parts suppliers that offer the same quality and durability as branded products but without the high prices.

We like to talk you through the process without using any complicated jargon so that you can better appreciate what the problem is and how we will go about solving it.

We cater for any vehicle, whether it’s a car, light commercial vehicle or 4×4. We are experienced in dealing with all makes and models from old to new.

Our list of repair services includes, but is not limited to:

  • Braking Systems
  • Electrical Repair
  • Cooling Systems
  • Engine Work & Tuning
  • Fuel Injection Repair
  • Suspension & Steering
  • Cambelt & Timing Chains
  • Clutch Replacement
  • Air Conditioning Systems
  • Exhaust Systems

If you have a worrying warning light appear on your dashboard, bring your vehicle to us and let us diagnose the problem.
If it’s breaking, broken or not working well, we can help! All work is carried out by experienced and qualified mechanics.

MOTs

We want you to enjoy trouble free and safe motoring as much as you do. MOT tests are designed to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to use for you, your passengers and other road users.

In the UK, an MOT test is a legal requirement which checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards defined by the Government.

You must get a MOT for your vehicle by either:

  • The third anniversary of your vehicle’s initial registration
  • The anniversary of its last annual MOT if it is over three years old

Some vehicles like taxis, ambulances and private passenger vehicles fitted with 9 or more seats need to be tested when one year old and every subsequent year.

If your vehicle doesn’t have a current MOT, it is illegal to drive it on a public road unless you are on the way to a pre-arranged MOT test, or if you are taking the vehicle to or from somewhere to be repaired.
